TEAM HISTORY AND HIGHLIGHTS
TNT has a short history compared to most clubs in Southeastern Swimming. The program began in May 2004 as a loosely organized practice group for local families, who at the time were in search of an alternative source of year round swim training. TNT became the team name when at a meeting of interested parents, the first written practice schedule was presented with the heading, “The New Team.”
During the first six months of operation, TNT secured pool time at the Point Clear Tennis Club where practices were held outdoors. Once the weather turned cold, TNT began training at the Bounds Family YMCA indoor pool, located in Daphne. Administrators and employees at both facilities made our families feel at home, providing practice time and pool space, allowing the program to stabilize and grow. This mutual cooperation continues to benefit TNT, as well as the interests of our host facilities.
Through a total team effort by parents, coaches and swimmers, TNT continues to progress both in and out of the water. Parent volunteers assist in day to day team operations, including book keeping, coordinating travel to out of town meets, outfitting our swimmers in great looking team apparel, ordering awards, as well as arranging parties, specialty seminars and clinics.
TNT parents also contribute to the operation of Southeastern Swimming meets by serving in various capacities as meet officials. This support has allowed TNT’s head coach to focus on providing a fun, productive, and rewarding program for our swimmers at all levels.
In the pool, swimmers from TNT are making a significant impact on Southeastern Swimming, as well as new breakthroughs nationally. Most recently, TNT won first place team trophies in the small team division at the 2007 Southeastern Short Course and Long Course Championships. Locally, TNT is rapidly acending through area team rankings, consistently winning both team and individual high point trophies, including the 2006, 2007 and 2008 SES South District 8 & under boys team championship plaques, as well as the 2008 8 & under girls championship team plaque.
Swimmers from TNT also contribute in a very significant way to the success of area summer league swimming teams.
TNT continues to be a work in progress, built upon a foundation of hope, faith, cooperation, hard work and determination to succeed. As we progress into our fourth year and beyond, nothing less will required as we continue to pursue our program goals and objectives.
